A couple of weeks not much to show

It’s such a busy year this year.ย  I currently have 4 extra adults and a baby living with me so there’s not been much time for crafting or reading or me.ย  Don’t get me wrong, it also has its up side.ย  Loads of laughs and chatter and food . . . food every where hahaha

Still I have managed to get a little bit of my projects done ๐Ÿ™‚

I finally finished the second strip for my stripey blanket! These 2 strips have taken me 3 years so far!

IMG_1040

The next two strips are narrower so hopefully will be a bit faster ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve done a little stitching also. Warm My Heart is truly coming out beautifully.

Stitching badges earnt since last update are these ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve missed out on a few that I could have earned due to being so busy but that’s ok.

Tomorrow is moving day for 2 of our adults and the baby.ย  A part of me is excited to have my upstairs back but another part of me is going to miss them terribly.ย  It does mean that with the real onset of winter (ski season opened last weekend) that stitching and knitting and all my other things will be getting an airing for the next couple of months ๐Ÿ˜‰

Crafty Bitches March Update

As the end of March was Easter weekend we elected to push our gathering out a weekend so that we could all enjoy the break ๐Ÿ™‚

img_0692.jpg

As always our guest of honor was avaliable for cuddles and snuggles.

First up was Mel and her Pashmina as modeled by the lovely Ricki

IMG_0693

As Ricki has been super busy with the final semester for her Masters she has not been crafting.ย  Due to this Jamie sent along one of his projects which is a pretty spectacular chopping board.

IMG_0694

As Ricki isn’t a fan of it (WHAAATTTTT!!!) so Ana scored it to keep and I sulked.

I showed the latest update of my cross stitch

img_0696.jpg

Super stoked with the way its looking ๐Ÿ™‚

Amy didn’t bring her project as advancements had not been made due to being a mum ๐Ÿ™‚

Unfortunately I can’t show Ana’s project as it was a very cool fairy light lamp that I videod and my wordpress doesn’t support that sorry ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The theme for the evening was Spain and wow did we do good on the food ๐Ÿ˜€

Ricki & Jamie provided a fabulous board for entree

Mel made croquettes. Half were ham and half were chicken, all were delicious.ย  Ana made a lentil and rice dish that was yum.ย  I made garlic chicken and a pesto orzo salad ๐Ÿ™‚

Desert was very good ๐Ÿ˜€ Amy made flan and we had rather a blast getting it out of the dish as none of us had ever made one before.ย  It came out in one peice and tasted fantastic.

That’s it for this month

A Long Overdue Craft Update

Wow this year has been busy.ย  Between a record year at work and a very very long hot summer the time has just flown and my craft posts have been few and far between.ย  This shall be rectified right now ๐Ÿ™‚

I finished knitting my second bunny well before Christmas but procrastinated way too long on sewing him up.ย  The twins eventually headed for their forever home in mid february.

IMG_0111.JPG

I learnt a lot while knitting these guys and considering it was my second ever completed knitted project I am very pleased with the result ๐Ÿ™‚

February also saw me making a second stenciled Tiki for a friend.ย  He wanted to pay me for it but that’s not how we roll ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_9831.JPG

The green one is the new one ๐Ÿ™‚

During February I decided that there would be no more new starts unless absolutely necessary until I had cleared my backlog of WIPS.ย  With this in mind I spent 3 days cutting up wool for the little rug that I am making.ย  A small amount of progress on this then occurred.

She’s going to need a wee mow when finished as some of my wool is longer than others hahaha

I discovered a rather large error in the back of my teal jersey so that resulted in redo :/

IMG_0377

I’ve randomly become addicted to cooking programs that feature for 1.5 hours 3 nights a week.ย  As I am a kind and loving wife I made the call not to subject my husband to them and have taken my knitted Stripey Blanket to the bedroom where I prop myself up on the bed and knit away to mindless yet yummy looking TV.ย  This has resulted in much progress on my blanket and I hope to finish the second strip very soon ๐Ÿ™‚

My daughter and her partner are living in our basement while they save to buy their first house ๐Ÿ™‚ They are planning on buy in and moving to Rotorua later this year.ย  It snowed on me while I was in Rotorua last year.ย  Also, she is an avid snowboarder so spends a lot of time on the mountains during winter.ย  With this in mind I am knitting her a hooded scarf for her birthday in August ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve never tried cable before so it’s rather a test

IMG_0379

This and a pair of very rude mittens which I will show another day will be my only new starts for this year.ย  I can justify this as they are presents and presents don’t count on the WIP challenge ๐Ÿ˜‰

My sister got engaged 2 days before Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚ This means that the whole family will be traipsing off to Perth for a wedding in mid 2019.ย  I am so excited!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ It suddenly occurred to me that I haven’t done any of her cross stitch since about mid 2017 so it was time to get it back out again.ย  Maybe, if I work very very hard at it, I might just be able to get it finished for her wedding.

img_0560.jpg

To help keep me motivated I have joined a Facebook group for cross stitch that runs challenges and issues badges when you complete them.ย  Always up for a challenge I have achieved a few badges in the past couple of weeks.

Now that’s a lot of stitching ๐Ÿ˜€

With the long weekend fast approaching, in 6 more hours to be precise, I can’t wait to climb back into all my wee projects.ย  My favourite annual book fair is on saturday and I am helping a friend move that day also plus there is a chocolate festival in Rotorua that we just have to attend but apart from that I home a lot and keen to sit in the sun with my knitting and my stitching while listening to podcasts ๐Ÿ˜€ Ahhhhhh some days I really am living the dream ๐Ÿ˜€

Crafty Bitches February Update

Nothing like posting the February update at the end of March, whoops.ย  Things have been super hectic so its been a bit of a struggle getting any of my blogs done and now they are trying to suffocate me and are a bit daunting in their number so I’ve been avoiding.ย  Now that the avoidance basket is so full it needs culling I am going to catch up.

Last months theme was Thailand and hosted by Ricki & Jamie

The theme for this year seems to be finish our WIP’s because that’s what we appear to all be doing ๐Ÿ™‚

img_0400.jpg

Melodie is continuing with her crochet Pashmina.ย  Good progress has been made and now it’s also wine scented.

IMG_0401

Amy is continuing with her cross stitch and is hopeful of having it completed before Ben goes to school.ย  All kidding aside, she has made great progress.

IMG_0402

Ricki is continuing on with her diamond painting of the last supper.ย  She’s a little concerned with the lack of features on the faces but we believe it will look fantastic.

img_0403.jpg

Toni is continuing with the stripey blanket and has nearly completed another strip.ย  The comparison strip is upside down in this picture so the stripes don’t quite match until you flip it up the other way.

Dinner was FANTASTIC and I think we are basically just a bunch of foodies who like to have busy hands now.

Next month is Ana & Craig’s house and we are heading to Spain ๐Ÿ™‚

Christmas

My writing in the later part of last year pretty much went to hell.ย  I had so much going on.ย  I barely made it to the gym even which is weird for me. This was me and my friend Robert leaving work on Christmas Eve as I went on well needed leave until January 8.

IMG_9653.JPG

Randomly the only thing I was on top of was Christmas.ย  I eased into the season this year with a relaxed mind and a happy heart.ย  I can’t remember the last time that happened.

Christmas Eve looked like this in our house.

IMG_9664

IMG_9663

Under that tree is, of course, the handmade gifts are under there also.ย  I was pretty proud of them this year ๐Ÿ™‚

Oldest daughter is going through her hippy phase and wanted something pretty, feminine and also maybe something to do with nature.ย  I found the bit of drift wood when out walking along the beach way back in July or August and had it tucked away.

25529992_10155335646958137_165824598_n

She was super excited when she opened it and we had to hang it that day ๐Ÿ™‚

Our youngest daughter is extremely into 21 Pilots so I made her this:

25589747_10155335646993137_1448226011_n

Middle daughter is going through a painful stage and I have absolutely no idea what to make for her this year so she got this:

IMG_8764

Boys are always hard to make stuff for so after and entire year of having no idea what to do this time our son got these to go with his new home.

Then there was my lovely daughter in law and awesome trainer.

I made them fairy jars only they went COMPLETELY wrong and you couldn’t see through them in the slightest.ย  I was so disappointed! Rather than sit down and cry I added some pretties to them, stuck a couple of candles in them an voila, we have hanging candle lanterns.

23915921_10155280142018137_3605087266743498700_n

I will be trying that fairy lantern idea again at some stage in 2018.

So that is my crafting round-up for Christmas.ย  Hope everyone had a fantastic break.

Minimal Crafty Update

I have been so slack!

For the first time in many many years I’m not crafting much. Randomly I am beginning to feel very guilty about this. I don’t think this is normal.ย  Hobbies should not inspire guilt if you aren’t doing them.

I have made exactly 1 knitted square for my patchwork blankie.

IMG_8691.JPG

The Stripey Rib Square

I have started the Dr Who scarf for my husband for Christmas.

IMG_8943.JPG

He has been practising his surprised face for Christmas as I have been knitting it while sitting beside him watching TV.

Finally I have started my Christmas makes.ย  These are some butterfly jars that I have made for my housekeepers and one of my daughters.

IMG_8762.JPG

I actually love these and feel the need to make more.

I have started the fairy jars for my trainer and my daughter in law and have bought everything for dream catchers and mini cross stitches.ย  I’ve also pickled onions for some cheese and cracker baskets I intend to do up so I am actually on track but its weird not having enough done to write about regularly.

On the other hand I am spending a lot of time outside.ย  I’m taking my book over to the beach and reading in the afternoons before its time to cook dinner.ย  I’ve completed a 5, 6 & 11km race.ย  Not well.ย  I wasn’t last but I certainly have room for improvement.ย  I’m catching up with friends that I haven’t seen enough of in the past couple of years.ย  This weekend I am having a flying lesson in an actual plane.ย  I’m getting out and I’m doing things! And I’m not sitting on my butt watching TV all the time.ย  None of this could be bad right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Till next time

A month without a post

Goodness! A whole month has passed since my last personal crafty post.ย  Have I been sitting on my laurels? Pretty much lol ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yea I have not been tremendiously productive but I have done a ton of knitting.

I have nearly made my second bunny.ย  Just need to get my act together and sew and stuff ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_8555.JPG

I finally started my first ever jersey.ย  I have only had the wool about 18 months.ย  I have finished the back ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_8556.JPG

I picked up the stripey strip for my knitted blanket.ย  Its probably been a year since the last time I picked this one up BUT I have been putting some serious time into it and have knitted probably 11 stripes in the past week.

IMG_8553

AND I got out my diamond painting again ๐Ÿ™‚ Not a huge amount done, but a little ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_8378

And I got a row done on my cross stitch

IMG_8554

Not an epic month for crafty stuff but at least we are still moving forward.

Oh dear, Christmas is coming.ย  I’m gunna need to get me shit together and start the presents if I don’t want to end in mad panic.

Crafty Bitches July 2017

With September only 2 days away I thought I had better get this posted.

July’s evening was at Jamie & Ricki’s place.ย  The dinner theme was Syria which turns out to be a lot like Egyptian but slightly different. It was delicious and mum made homemade pita’s.

20479843_10156492050420760_4157953961317084419_n.jpg

Ricki’s make for the month was Mulled Wine ala Jamie Oliver http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/recipe/jamie-s-mulled-wine/ I suggest keeping this recipe somewhere safe because it’s a good one ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_8366

She also got started on her Diamond Painting. Apparently her and Mel have figured out its going to take about 8 years to finish.

IMG_8367.JPG

Ana & Craig couldn’t make it so it was just us Lunam’s in residence.ย  Mel made her world-famous Kiwifruit Jam which I am sure she will be pleased to know that mine wandered past being eaten with a spoon by my daughter the next morning.

IMG_8365.JPG

And I made this

IMG_8363.JPG

My mosaic was too close together so I ran out of bits and stole some different ones from my daughter. At least it looks like it was supposed to look like this.

Other Mel phoned her’s in and was once more incredibly prolific in her stitching.

After dinner we adjourned to the new outdoor bush entertainment area.ย  As it’s the middle of winter I had to borrow pants and a jacket.ย  We got the music humming and lit the fire pit and generally had a fabulous remainder of our evening.

You can’t bet an evening with good food, wine (when you aren’t doing Dry July and aren’t the sober driver), family, loads of laughter and several chihuahua’s

Where Did That 3 Weeks Go?

Wow! Its been 3 weeks since my last crafty update.ย  Whoops! My bad.

Its been a little hectic here, but then when isn’t it.ย  All we seem to do is dash about getting older, and boy do I feel old lately.ย  My legs been taped up for the past 5 weeks.ย  I’m still not allowed to run and I have now been banned from climbing that big hill in my back yard.ย  There has been minimal improvement lately so if none has occurred over the next week my physio is bringing out the big guns and getting his boss to have a look.ย  He’s getting concerned that there might be something major going on that he’s missed seeing acupuncture, massage and rest have had no effect.ย  Here’s the thing, I’m not a sook and I push through pain so we really are starting to wonder what the heck I’ve done to myself.ย  Oh well.ย  At least its winter so I’m not missing out on the fun summer stuff ๐Ÿ˜€ Always a bright side right ๐Ÿ˜€

Crafty wise I have been right into my knitting.ย  Last night was the first night in a week that I haven’t knitted.ย  I’ve managed a few squared for the Patchwork blanket ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_8166

Garter Stitch Square

IMG_8187

Moss Zigzag Square

That one has a minor hiccup where I apparently zagged when I should have zigged but I didn’t notice till I had cast off.ย  On to the ‘re-do’ pile it will go ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_8193.JPG

Moss Stitch Square

I then put the needles down for a few days and did a little cross stitching on Warm My Heart.

Only 1,500 stitches achieved over the past 3 weeks thanks to knitting bug.

So then I went back to knitting and made myself a wee hat ๐Ÿ™‚ Now, bear in mind that I have only achieved one completed knitting project so far which is my bunny from a few weeks ago.ย  I am super chuffed with this even though it’s probably more kid sized and I don’t suit hats.ย  Going to have another go in a few weeks and make one a smidge bigger so I can get my ponytail in it ๐Ÿ˜€

Then this past weekend I suddenly realised that I had yet to complete this months craft for next Saturday.ย  As it was too late to start something new I dug out an old mosaic kit that I started around 4 years ago and had a play with it.ย  Wouldn’t you know it, kit didn’t come with enough bits! So I go creative and stole some from Natalies that I bought at the same time.ย  As that was 4 years ago I doubt she will miss them ๐Ÿ˜€

IMG_8327.JPG

I kinda like this and now have a wee idea that I might like to make hearts for above all the doorways in the house as I have a wooden one that is already insitue that my cousin made ๐Ÿ™‚ Might just add a little quirk to my world ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then I went back to knitting and started on my first ever jersey. After a week I have nearly finished the back and I am rather proud of myself ๐Ÿ™‚ I had to un-stitch a couple of times because of errors but it has been rather easy.ย  Mind your it’s just a stocking stitch so not super complicated but I am about halfway up the Raglan sleeve hole bits which has been a bit of a learn.

IMG_8328.JPG

Its a yoga jersey and will have a hood for which the instructions kind of scare me but I am determined lol ๐Ÿ™‚

The wool is a joy to work with.ย  A Cashmere and Marino blend and the colour is a sort of dusty sea-foam.ย  I can’t wait to wear this but I am picking it will not be finished till next winter.ย  I am going to finish the back this week and them go on to my stripey blanket which is yodeling from the basket at me and has been neglected for too long.ย  I also need to get my second bunny both started and finished.ย  Anyone know where I could find an extra 4 – 5 hours each day hahaha ๐Ÿ˜‰

When You’re Busy Busy But Not Busy Crafting

We’ve been super busy in the Semmens household recently.ย  We’ve been out way more than we’ve been in, and when we have been in we’ve had visitors everywhere ๐Ÿ™‚ This is a good thing! I introvert way too easily and too often so this has gotten me out of my comfort zone and made my husband happy. We’ve been for walks and runs and visits and had people over for dinner and drinks and games of pool and made stairs in the bush and . . .

I fear I haven’t picked up a needle in 2 weeks and chances are rather high that I won’t this week either lol We are out to dinner Friday night and have a party to go to Saturday night but who knows.ย  The weathers supposed to be bollocks so we will be in the house the rest of the time.ย  Plenty of crafting opportunitiesย  then ๐Ÿ™‚

That doesn’t mean that I have done nothing, just that I haven’t done a lot.ย  I’ve managed to get 2 squares done for my patchwork blanket!

IMG_8062

Double Moss Stitch Square

This one came together quite nicely ๐Ÿ™‚ Knitted up in an evening.ย  No restarts and no dramas.

IMG_8064

Checkerboard Square

I hate this one! and please don’t look at it closely.ย  It was re-started 4 F@#$%^G times!!!! and I should have restarted it again cept I’m pretty sure they would have put me in one of those jackets that let you hug yourself in one of those rooms with the squishy walls if I did.ย  I have no idea why this one had a hate on for me because I have certainly done more complicated works but I just couldn’t get it to work.ย  It took me a week to get 50 rows done which the most ridiculous thing ever! GRRRRRRR!

One day I will attempt to redo this square . . . one day before I sew the blanket together . . . today is not that day.

Not only but also I made this.ย  It’s a bit shit, somebody described it as ‘looks like a monkeys penis, and looks way better from a distance (So I made a smaller picture) but, hey, you live you learn ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_8105

Finally to round things up, this isn’t crafty but I love the way the light is reflecting so I’m putting it in here to end the month with ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_8102.JPG

So to sum it all up, I have been as lazy af lately but what the heck.ย  Tomorrow is another day . . . oh that’s right, its July even and this year I am once again going sober for the month to raise money for people living with cancer ๐Ÿ™‚ The money raised through this campaign goes towards upgrades in the chemo centres as well as other areas.ย  It pays for the free wifi and the non-government-issue comfy chairs that the patients can be in for several hours at a time, books and magazines, morning and afternoon teas etc. and that’s only the beginning.ย  Such a worthy cause that is often overlooked by the other fundraising drives that you see and, trust me, one that my liver thanks me for every time that I do this.ย  So far over the 3 years I have participated I have raised around $600 myself and look forward to contributing more again this year.ย  Please feel free to sponsor my Dry July – http://www.dryjuly.co.nz/users/toni-semmens
